Majolica in Morningside
Had a last minute brunch for some visiting Americans before their flight to the Kalahari and I did not want to cook! So I popped over to the Saturday French Market at the Morningside Shopping Center near our apartment to pick up some fresh homemade Quiche Lorraine and Tarte Tatin! C'est magnifique!
The French Market also has an Artisan and Flea Market component, and there I found the gorgeous African-inspired majolica ware of the Pilgrim Potters, Joshua Ben King and his wife Theresa.
Expat Floridians who came to Africa as missionaries and stayed on, they have managed to combine their pottery skills with spreading the Word in a unique way. They visit primary schools to demonstrate their pottery wheel and segue via a passage from Jeremiah 18 to evangelize.
6 He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel."
Their work is so intricate and festive and is dishwasher and microwave safe. Praise The Lord!
