Vince was in the mood for a burger last night. So where can one get a good burger in Joburg? According to EatOut - SA's best guide to the SA's best restaurants - that would be Duke's Burgers in nearby Greenside.
The place was rocking on a Friday night but we managed to squeeze in at 7:00 with an early (for this place) dinner reservation. Equal opportunity as far as meat choices go, they offered a pretty extensive selection of beef, ostrich, lamb, chicken and vegetarian burgers. I had the Ghandi, a red lentil and chickpea patty on a bed of rocket, topped with sweet pepper chutney and sour cream coriander dip. Vince had the New Yorker, double beef patties sandwiched together with melted cheddar topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, gherkin and mayonnaise. Both were most excellent!
The burgers came with a side order of chips, potato wedges or salad. Vince had the chips (french fries) and they were really good. I had the salad which was also really good, i.e., more than just a boring green salad. We split an order of onion rings which were perfectly cooked too. Crispy on the outside, juicy and sweet on the inside.

And speaking of sweet, they had a super milkshake menu to go with the burgers, including some nice ones spiked with combinations of vodka, tequila, Amarula and Frangelico. Be careful though, they go down good!
Clearly the night to go to Duke's is Wednesdays though when they have a special Rock Wednesday menu. And there is an enclosed patio for some alfresco dining which we will definitely try next time.
'Til next time!
