Driving the Trans Kalahari Highway
We chose to take the Trans Kalahari Highway from Namibia back to South Africa. There might be quicker ways - and that's arguable - but we couldn't resist the name. It sounded like an adventure!
We set out before dawn driving through Namibia before reaching the entrance to Botswana.
Warning: antelopes are not the only animals you have to watch out for! We had near misses with a variety of African wildlife.
We felt much better once the sun rose and we could actually survey the landscape on either side of the highway.
We made it to the border with Botswana.
First you have to leave Namibia.
Then you enter Botswana.
Welcome to Botswana and the beginning of the Trans-Kalahari Highway.
I navigated.
They drove!
And drove.
And drove.
Not like these guys who drove the Trans Kalahari Highway the old-fashioned way ... in a donkey cart.
We crossed the Tropic of Capricorn twice on our way home from Sesriem to Johannesburg. But there were no signs! Good thing Vince had this handy dandy app on his iPad so we could mark the occasion on the TKH.
Anyone want to learn Zulu on the Trans Kalahari Highway?
The sun set before we reached the end.
And the moon rose.
Afterglow on the Trans Kalahari Highway. Next stop, Johannesburg, South Africa!
