Still technically part of the Cape Winelands, there is wine ...
And being Spring Day and the peak of the Namaqua Flower Season, there are flowers that line the vines.
The Cederberg is the only place in the world where the red bush rooibos is found ...
... and you can visit the Rooibos Tea factory in Clanwilliam and learn all about its production. There is also a vellie factory in Clanwilliam, but I already have a pair so we bypassed it.
We stayed at the Mount Ceder Lodge in one of their humongous well-equipped cabins.
This is Cape Leopard country! We contributed to the Cape Leopard Conservation Trust headquartered at the lodge. A testament to their allusiveness, most of the photographs taken of Cape Leopards are taken on a remote night camera.
Our cabin overlooking ...
the river and the mountains of the Cederberg.
The Cederberg is all about hiking ...
... over rocky paths ...
... to see rock formations.
The Maltese Cross is just four more k's over that ridge.
Everyone makes these rock altars to acknowledge that they have been there.
God made this one. He's better at it.
The water was really running fast in this brook below the skinny footbridge.
Don't look down!
There is also hiking to San Bushman rock art displays.
Rock art inside the rocky overhang.
The Cederberg receives more rainfall that anywhere else in South Africa.
So it is the fruit basket of South Africa ... oranges, apples, cherries. The orchards work year round!
And since it was Namaqua Flower Season, we saw alot of flowers along the entire drive north to Namaqualand.
Can't wait to get to Namaqualand!
But first some Richtersveld-worthy roads where we can practice our four-wheeling.
A long and winding mountain pass through the Cederberg.
Watch out for baboons.
Hey I'm walking here!
