Are the stars out tonight?

One of the great things about being so far removed from the trappings of civilization - reliable internet and cell service, ambient light - is being able to see so many stars up above. The night sky is amazing in Africa. Remember? I decided to marry my husband because of it!

So in the evenings at our rondavel in Leokwe in Mapungubwe, we sat under the African night sky with its crescent moon and Southern Cross and we took in the star-studded show.

Vince has this great app on his Ipad. If you point it towards the sky in any direction, it names the planets and constellations!

We could clearly see six of the seven sisters of the Pleiades constellation to the left of Taurus with the naked eye. (Taurus is both Vince's and my sun sign.)

That's bright  Jupiter in the lower left!

Taurus on the left (the upside down "V") and Orion in the middle. Castor and Pollux in Gemini are below Taurus and Orion.

 Great show, Africa. Encore!
