DemoCrazy

reprinted from The New Yorker

Growing up reading the The New York Times, The Washington Post and The New Yorker made me a life-long fan of political cartoons.

reprinted from The New York Times

I don't always get the political cartoons here in the Mail and Guardian and the Sunday Times, but I try. My favorite political cartoonist is the political cartoonist of South Africa, Jonathan Shapiro, who draws under the name Zapiro. He has satirized everything from Amandla to Nkandla and all the political craziness in between.

Zapiro's anthology, DemoCrazy chronicles South Africa's twenty year trip of democracy from Mandela to Zuma. It is a brutally funny record of a momentous and historic time. And it is annotated by Mike Wells which may help explain some of the inside back story I need to sometimes get the joke.

We arrived at Exclusive Books in Hyde Park just before the signing so the line was not too bad.

Shut up, Jonathan's from Brooklyn! No wonder I relate to his humor!

Is EFF’s Red Overalls A Political Symbol or A Stunt? published in Sunday Times on 27 Jul 2014 Julius Malema says "An unjust law is not law at all. And that is starting with the dress code. Why should people be refused to enter Parliament in overalls and be restricted to suits and ties?"
