Lou & Serge are finally South African

stamped and painted collars
Lou had been wearing his skull and crossbones collar and Serge, his New York Yankees insignia collar since they moved here from the USA more than a year ago. Their dog tags still had our old American telephone number and address on them. They finally became naturalized South African citizens this weekend.
There is a guy who has a sidewalk stand at the Dunkeld West Shopping Center who will customize a dog tag for you while you wait - or in my case, shop at the fishmonger's and flower & veg shop. Their names and my South African cell phone number hand-stamped on new brass dog bones. You do not need to license your dogs with the government annually here like you do back in the United States, but we did register them with Identipet after we moved to South Africa. We picked up Ndebele-style leather collars at the Rosebank Finders Keepers Market and we migrated their Home Again microchip Identipet tags from their old collars to their new ones.

And just like that, they can now finally call themselves card-carrying full-fledged South African doxies.
