First Footing

We wanted to be the first ones on a dune in the morning. We bypassed the more popular dunes - like Big Daddy and Dune 45 which we had climbed before with the crowd - and set our sights on one that overlooked Sossusvlei. It was a little further out, off the beaten path and we thought we would have a shot at a "first footing."

We got to the park entrance gate before sunrise when it opens.

The line waiting to get in!

and waiting ...

still waiting ...

It's bad when people get out of their cars when you're waiting.

It looks hopeless.

What's this? Hope!

Finally the gates opened and the ranger starting checking us in.

The line behind us still waiting to get in.

It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to make it all the way to the end where we were heading.

After deflating our tires again in the 2X2 parking lot in record time, we struck out for our dune. We were the first ones there! Vince led the way.

Ric deferred to Vince for "first footing."
