Christmas Tree Present

Our first Christmas tree in South Africa! A wire baobab.

We put it up on the patio so we could see it whether we are outside or in.

We are planning to braai on Christmas Eve and to eat at the patio table outdoors.

The tree is very simply decorated with white lights and all the beaded animals of Africa we hope to see over our Christmas holiday in Pilanesburg (safari animals and the Big Five), the Cape (penguins), the Karoo (ostriches) and along the Garden Route (great white sharks).

Looking at the tree from inside the apartment.

sideways view with it peeking out from under the roof.

an African penguin

The Big Five elephant

a hippo

The Big Five lion

The Big Five cape buffalo

a zebra

The Big Five rhino

The Big Five leopard

The great wildebeest

An ostrich

A great white shark

A sable

... and the fiercest animal of all animals currently in Africa ....

 Serge the dachshund ....

...and Zulu Lou!

I think I will leave the tree and lights up all year.

So festive!

And private.

It's like being on safari every day.

Merry Christmas 2013 from Valley Lodge!!!

  1. It all looks amazing. It must have taken ages to do.

  2. Thanks! Not as long as it took the guys to sculpt it out of wire. A work of art.
