We celebrated Diwali at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Mayfair West. BAPS (Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) is a socio-spiritual Hindu organization.

The festivities were held in a building that was originally a church abandoned during the apartheid era. It was given to the local Indian community who recently renovated it adding a temple to the existing church building. The mandir is part community center and part house of worship.
As we entered the building, we walked through a very interesting instructional display that described the Hindu philosophy behind a healthy body and mind. (They are sending me an e-book of the display.) "Din Din Diwali" showed us how to find joy in each day.

We were invited to light candles and say a prayer.

Diwali fireworks filled the sky all around Joburg. Joy!
