Christ the King Cathedral

Christ the King
Today was the Feast of the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is the last Sunday of the Roman Catholic liturgical year. Next week is the first Sunday of Advent which begins the new liturgical year.

So we I decided we should take the opportunity to hear Mass on the Feast of Christ the King at the Cathedral of Christ the King in downtown Johannesburg. The cathedral is the seat of the archdiocese of Johannesburg and it and the archdiocese are presided over by the Archbishop Buti Tlhagale. Mass was said by Father Thabo P Motshegos.

It was more like a gospel revival than a Mass. Lots of singing. Lots of dancing. Lots of spirit. The Mass lasted well over two hours. And the cathedral was absolutely packed! They also offer a Nigerian Community Mass, a Zambian Mass and a Malawian Community Mass.

The Cathedral is in a pretty rough neighborhood of the CBD called Berea. And just so you know, there are no parking guards in the lot to watch over your car while you are in the cathedral. I guess they figure there is enough God inside to keep an eye on your car for you.
