Wish I could have been there!
Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Bakithi Kumalo, Abdullah Ibrahim, David Kramer, Dizu Plaatjies, Simphiwe Dana, Toya DeLazy, Pretty Yende and a host of others. All of them celebrated South Africa in the month-long Ubuntu Festival at New York's Carnegie Hall.
The Ubuntu Festival, a tribute to Nelson Mandela and South Africa’s rich musical heritage, launched on 10 October with Hugh Masekela and Vusi Mahlasela performing a concert entitled “Twenty Years of Freedom” with special guests Dave Matthews and the American songwriter and singer, Somi. And if that wasn't enough, the Festival ended with a reunion between Paul Simon and his Graceland collaborators, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
We are going to see LBM tonight in Joburg. Sure would be cool if Paul Simon came along for the ride!
