Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015

Founded in 1973 as the Whitbread Around the World Race, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world's leading offshore sailing race. By the time the approximately 267 day race is finished, the teams will have sailed over four oceans and visited 11 ports on five continents.

The race has changed alot since it was first conceived over a pint of Whitbread ale in a Portsmouth pub. What began as a race for predominately amateur sailors in their cruising boats is now exclusively sailed by high level athletes and professional sailors in one-design boats built to exactly the same standards. And the seven teams are sponsored by multi-national corporations and governments.

Lucky for us, one of the ports is Cape Town!
