Looking for Leopards
The Central and Southern Serengeti in Tanzania are leopard country.
Granite kopjes and caves. Trees and thick bushes.
We did several game drives around the Maasai and Moru Kopjes and the Mokoma Hills as well as the Simba Kopjes on the way to Naabi Hill in an attempt to spot a leopard. But we never did see one.
On one afternoon game drive, we saw herds and herds of buffalo by the Seronera River.
And on a morning game drive, we saw a large male lion hunting in the tall savannah grass.
We also saw a cheetah hunting on the same morning.
I thought it was a leopard at first when I saw the spots, but it was definitely a cheetah.
We realized there is no point in "looking for leopards." You only see a leopard when they want to show themselves to you.
And clearly no leopard wanted to be seen by us on this safari.
